2020 AGM minutes
Shipley and Keighley Liberal Democrats
MINUTES OF ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING,
November 19th, 2020
Present - 19 members
1. Apologies for absence:
2. Minutes of 2019 AGM: accepted
3. Reports
The chair, Caroline Jones, presented her report of the year's activities, and highlighted the need for continuing efforts at local elections. She paid tribute to Alan Sykes, who died during the year.
The membership secretary, Nicholas Allon, reported a discouraging drop in membership, from 311 in November 2019 prior to the general election, to 191 in November 2020.
Kay Kirkham reported on attendance at virtual conference in September 2020. While this was quite successful, she is sounding out opinion about a mixed virtual/actual conference in 2021, with a view to bringing a motion to the Federal Conference Committee to propose this. It was agreed that this would be discussed at the next executive meeting, with a view to drafting a letter of support.
4. Election of Officers
Officers were elected as over.
Steve Spoerry spoke briefly as the incoming chair. He thanked Caroline Jones for her work over the past three years and outlined his hopes for the future. He welcomed suggestions as to how to develop our activities.
5. Accounts 2019
The treasurer, Paul Mann, presented the accounts for 2019. He reported on a loss over the year of around £4500, due to the number of elections. Whilst 2019 was an untypical year, this is a cause for concern, and there is a continuing need to increase donations. All members attending who had not already set up a small monthly donation were asked to consider doing so.
The signatories on the bank account will need to be changed, following the election of new officers.
The accounts were accepted by the meeting.
6. Appointment of Independent Examiner
Richard Clark has agreed to continue as Independent Examiner.
7. Any Other Business: None
The meeting concluded with a presentation by Stewart Golton, the LibDem candidate for W.Yorkshire mayor.
